students will continue summarizing informational text. When summarizing, students must determine the most important information to include. It's important to synthesize ideas so that the summary is brief. For example, instead of having separate sentences about where Paul Revere grew up and when he was born, one could say both in one well-written sentence. A summary should contain a topic sentence, be written in your own words, and contain the most important information in a logical order. Although we may think or feel a certain way about the topic we are summarizing, it is also very important to remember that personal opinions should not be included.
