Students practiced note taking skills as they learned about atoms. It's amazing to think that every single thing is made up of atoms! Some important terms to know are:
Nucleus - the center of the atom.
Protons - positively charged particles in the center of the atom.
Neutrons - neutral particles in the center of the atom.
Electrons - smaller, negatively charged particles that orbit the nucleus.
Now that students have basic terminology, we will begin to explore energy by sharing what we know about static electricity. By the end of the week, students will be able to explain how static electricity is made, what it is able to do, and even label a diagram illustrating how it works. It's hard to believe that the same "zap" you get from a shock is quite similar to a bolt of lightning!
