The Americans quickly saw that the Articles of Confederation, the first government of the United States, had flaws. While the Americans were hesitant to have a strong central government (remember their recent experiences with Great Britain), the loose confederation of states was too weak.  There needed to be a better way!  Students will be assigned to different states.  Each student will become an expert on a delegate who shared his state's viewpoints and ideas during the great debate.  Once students gain background knowledge and have the chance to collaborate with fellow delegates, we will reenact this great debate in class as we hold our own Constitutional Convention!
