As students put the finishing touches on their informative and opinion writing, 5th graders will begin to examine characteristics of the industrial revolution.  Students will research this time period.  Background knowledge on this time period will then be used to help students plan a historical fiction narrative set during this time period.  The focus of this piece will be on the introduction.  Students will establish the setting, characters, and problem.
