5th graders know how to make readers "bite". You just need to dangle and exciting or interesting hook!   After examining various types of informative "hooks", students created their own for our informative energy papers.  Next, it was time to explain the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources.  Finally, it was time to craft a thesis statement.  Yes, a THESIS statement!  This important statement lets readers know exactly what they will read about in the rest of the paper.  Up next?  Drafting the body paragraphs, which will explain an energy source in detail.  Students will learn how to incorporate a direct quote to support their thinking.  It's a good thing we have so many notes from our research last week.
