Examining Multiple Sources of Information...

is critical when you are expected to write or tell people about a topic.  Will one source have the most current information?  Could one source of information be biased?   Students will examine various informational pieces and determine the most important ideas of each piece.  Next, students will integrate the information they have learned from each piece to inform others about the topic.
 

To 'sum' it up...

our students are doing a great job when it comes to summarizing the text.  While reading informational text, it is important to determine what the main idea is.  Just because something may be interesting does not always mean that it is important.  In addition to summarizing a variety of text, students will also summarize the key points made by a speaker.  Paraphrasing is a valuable skill that allows you to capture the information you need quickly.
